Indications/Uses : Herpes simplex infections in skin & mucous membrane, including initial & recurrent genital & labial herpes.
Dosage/Directions for Use : Apply 5 times daily 4 hrly w/o night dose. Duration of treament: 5 days, may be continued until 10 days.
Contraindications : Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions : Do not apply to mucous membrane. Not for prevention of recurrent herpes simplex infection. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions : Burning & stinging. Erythema, mild dry skin, skin flaking.
Interactions :
Increased t½ w/ probenecid.
Preg Safety (US) :
Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters).
